BITUMEN EMULSION : FOR ROADS
(CATIONIC TYPE) |
Minute Bitumen particles dispersed in water is called Bitumen Emulsion. An Emulsion in which the cation of the emulsifier is at the interface with the bitumen particle: An Emulsion in which the particles are positively charged and the aqueous phase is acidic are called CATIONIC EMULSIONS.
UNIVERSAL Cationic Emulsions are manufactured and tested confirming to the specifications of IS 8887.
Universal Bitumen Emulsion have advantages over hot applied bitumen. Cold appled Bitumen Emulsions is fulfilling a real Technical and Commercial requirement for Roads. Bitumen Emulsions are used in Road works due the Reliability, Economy and simplicity of application. |
Type of Emulsions :
UNIVERSAL Cationic Emulsions are broadly classified in three types. |
1, Rapid Setting. Type RS. |
2, Medium Settings Type MS. |
3, Slow Settings Type SS. |
All above types are as per specifications of IS 8887 the latest edition. The physical and chemical specifications are as shown in table.
The product is fluid enough to be applied at normal temperature without heating. They remain fluid after application for giving sufficient time for easy application. |
Typical Uses : The recommended uses of the UNIVERSAL Cationic type Emulsions are as below
1, Rapid Settings RS
Used for surface dressing treatment, penetration macadam and Tack coat.
Medium Settings MS
Used mainly for premix work with aggregate. Also can be used for Tack coat and surfacedressing where quick breaking of the emulsion is not required.
Slow Setting
Used for plant or road mixes with graded and fine aggregates.
Instructions for Use :Universal Cationic Emulsions are Fluid enough to be applied at normal temperature. The Emulsions are chocolate in colour but after emulsion has broken, the colour changes to black. The traffic should be kept off for as long as possible after rolling or at least until it is clear that the emulsion has broken.
Do not heat the Bitumen Emulsion.
Do not let the Emulsion to freeze.
